Drive fine-free this festive season

The City’s latest traffic fine roadshow rolls into the Civic Centre from 5 December. Motorists will have a week to state their case and get fines and warrants reduced at the very popular ‘one stop shop’. Read more below:

Roadshow staff will run the service on Friday, 5 December to trial operational readiness, and open to City staff and persons with bulk representations, i.e. 20 or more fines/warrants.

The event will begin in earnest and open to all from Saturday, 6 December (until 12:30) and then Monday, 8 December to Friday, 12 December.

The daily cut-off time will be determined by operational staff in charge – persons still in the queue will receive tickets to return the following day and be first in line.

'The roadshows are incredibly popular, and a win-win for all concerned. Motorists get to clear the slate and the City gets to reduce the mammoth number of outstanding fines and associated paperwork. In fact, one can argue that motorists drive off with the better deal, considering the discounted amounts they pay, not to mention the ease of doing business at the roadshow compared to visiting individual municipal courts to resolve fines and warrants,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

Road safety and adherence to both national legislation and the City's Traffic by-law continues to be a challenge. In the period July to September 2025, the Traffic Service recorded 815 613 offences – 11% higher than the corresponding period the year before.

Officers also executed 27 771 warrants of arrest for outstanding fines or missed court appearances – a slight increase over the previous year.

'We're approaching the time of year with increased roadblocks and vehicle checkpoints as part of our festive season safety deployment. We're also increasingly making use of tools like automated number plate recognition technology that can identify scofflaws with ease. So, please take advantage of the roadshow or one of our other fine payment options, or run the risk of potential arrest this holiday season, if you have outstanding warrants,' added Alderman Smith.
